How to fix an Ipod Touch 5 stuck on upgrade mode if I don't know the password?!

So today I found my old Ipod touch 5 and was super excited by then I realized that I don;t know the password. It has a 4 digit number password that I can;t remember to save the life of me, and the "find my iPhone" feature on iCloud didn't work because it isn't connected to my WiFi for some reason.

I went onto Google and decided to plug in the iPod and try and fix the problem by restoring it but when I plugged in the iPod, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade and restore it. I thought that upgrading it at the same time would save me time, but now my iPod is on a white screen waiting to download its new upgrade and is asking me for the password that I don't know.

What do I do?!! There is no warranty left on the device and I can;t really afford to take it to an Apple store right now.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

To restore from backup see:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
