ibooks new purchased book will not open!

I just purchased a new book on ibooks and it is downloaded on my ibooks but when I click it to open it, it says "It is formatted incorrectly, or is not a format iBooks can open". I have tried connecting my ipad to my computer, and it won't even show up on my MacBook Air in iBooks, I have updated everything, synced ALL books...nothing. It's not even recognizing that I have purchased this book on my computer. I called apple and they said they can't help me unless I pay $30 to speak with someone. Can ANYONE please help me!? Thank you!
