Can you use an iPad like a surface pro 3 in piwerpoint?

I am considering buying an iPad mini for school, but one thing I am interested in is something I see people with Surface tablets doing. I often see them with PowerPoint open, typing notes into the presenters notes and using a stylus to either highlight or write on the powerpoint itself. Is that something I could do on an iPad?
