having trouble shuffling my songs without adding my songs each time I have turned on my iPod 6th generation

I recently purchased a new iPod touch 6th generation.

I finally have all of my songs synced to the iPod thru iTunes. I have tried to play them using the shuffle function, BUT BOTH times I have tried this, I have had to add my songs to the "next song to be played" list after I select any song to start with.

Is there a way to NOT have to add the songs to the "next up list" every time I want to listen to them?
