I can print from my Mac Book air using a cable to Epson XP 710 but not by WiFi Although if I use my iPad I can print using WiFi

You didn’t say - did you go to System Prefs > Printing & Scanning and add the printer there?

are your wired connection and wi-fi the same exact network
Is your printer connected to your router using wifi?

Ping printer: If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (Applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.
If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.
