Q: How do you transfer your albums from iPhoto to Photo?

Have new iMac with OS X Yosemite.  Transferred photos from the old machine to use in Photo App but can't see a way to transfer the albums that I had previously used in iPhoto to organise the pictures.  Any ideas or do I have to go through 3,700 pictures assigning each one to a new album?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 1 Gb memory

When you migrate your iPhoto library all regular albums and all smart albums that will work with Photos (smart albums using criteria that Photos does not support like event names will not migrate) are automatically migrated and show under albums in photos - events in iPhoto are also converted to albums and are under albums in a folder named iPhoto events

Thanks Larry, I appreciate that.  Unfortunately, on my old iMac, the iPhoto library file was not in the 'standard' location so the pictures did not migrate automatically.  I have had to import them manually to photo.  I was hoping I could do something similar with the album information?

    Cheers

TO migrate yudo not import (Never import a library) - simply drag the iPhoto library to the Photos icon in the Dock to migrate it - Or hold down the Option key while launching Photos and select the iphoto library to open and migrate - both work the same

The only way you can keep your iphoto edits and structure and projects is to migrate the iPhoto library

That's great.  I'd tried the option key process before but it hadn't worked.  I've tried again and it worked perfectly.  Photo uploaded all my pictures and the albums.  Thanks for your help.
