Q: If i update when in "Disk Mode" does this remove all the data?

My ipod touch 5 with ios 8 or 7 software (forgotten) will not start. It simply comes up with a black background and the white apple logo. I have read another article  telling me what to do when in this mode however just wondering when i plug it in and click update will this remove all data? I cant afford to loose any of the data especially the application data

If it does delete data when i update is there anyway i can start it without deleting data?

There is no Disk Mode for iOS devices like iPod touch. iPhone and iPad.

Try the following. If you have to Restore the device that erases the device.:

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

    - Try another cable

    - Try on another computer

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
