Playcounts different on iPod and iTunes

I recently had to update to iTunes 12 when I got a new computer. On all other previous iTunes incarnations, when I synced my iPod, my playcount total on a specific song on iTunes would increase. Now, it seems that it is consistently the same while only the playcounts on my iPod increase. How can I get iTunes to act like its older version and transfer the playcounts from my iPod to my iTunes so that they display the same data?
