Invitations from calendar - alerts

After I have received and accepted a calendar invitation from someone for an 'all day' event, my phone sets the alert for that event at 23.59. This happens even if the person sending the invitation does not put an alert on it. As I receive about 20 invites a day (I control the work calendar) this is driving me crazy! If anyone can advise... thank you.
