How to remove notification numbers from IPad Face Time icon if the Face Time icon was not activated in order to accept the Face Time caller?

Launch FaceTime. Tap the Edit button in the upper left corner, tap the circle to the left of the Contact then tap delete at the bottom. Or swipe from right to left across tthe contact to get the red delete button.

It did not work. The Face Time icon on the IPad still shows in red the number of attempts contacting me to use Face Time.
