hdmi wont work with my monitor

Hi, I bought a new mac mini last week in England.

It has the latest op system, Yosemite.

Managed to get it up and running with TV in UK, but brought it to Spain this week and my mac mini won't seem to show on my display.

It has grey fuzzy screen?

Is the HDMI cable possibly wrong/useless.

It is HDMI to HDMI.

My Windows desktop from UK works fine with this monitor.

Should I be using another means to use this display?

I have 2 thunderports?

Is there a thunderport to HDMI and if so would it make a difference.

I can't be more specific because I can't get screen to work beyond fuzzy grey/gray.

I hope someone can help me.

I think my monitor runs at 60 hz and has 1600 x 900 resolution, fine enough for my WIN 10 desktop.

Please can anyone direct me?

My specific monitor is a Samsung LT24

Thanks for your quick response.

I will have to carefully read all the comments before acting.

I am also not happy to find that my mac mini doesnt work out of the box!

Will come back to you if I have anything positive.

Once again thanks

I've tried using an HDMI splitter which gives me good results for the WIN 10 machine but nothing for the Mac Mini.

Illaass,

Many thanks for your sterling work on my behalf, I do appreciate your knowledge.

I considered the response and felt it would compromise the very reason I bough the mac so that I could have a "media centre" using HDMI.

I abandoned my attempts with my smaller Samsung and switched to my normal TV NOT my normal monitor and it worked right away apart from 1 problem, my screen was too big.

I searched and found that underscaling solved the problem.

I can now see the top toolbar with apple logo, all left. all right and the bottom toolbar.

Thanks once again.

My only problem now is to get a "soft vpn" for mac osx I am sure they exist.

Have a good weekend

Edward

It also has a VGA input

You can try a mini displayport>VGA connection. The mini displayport end plugs into the Thunderbolt port
