This has probably been asked before, so I apologise for that!
I'm new to owning a MacBook and have got a 2tb Time Capsule also. How do I add media to it from an external hard drive? I don't want to leave the external hard drive connected to it if possible.

Drag the media files there, or use Time Machine to back the drive up.

Thanks. I tried that but it says 'modifying airport time capsule requires an administrator name and password. To move the file, click Authenticate'. Where do i Authenticate it at and add the administrator name and password?
Are you logged into the computer as a user with full administrator rights?
If so you need to change the permissions on the files you are trying to copy or the directory you want to copy it to.
Yosemite made this much harder than it used to be for some unknown reason.
OS X Yosemite: Use external storage devices
Do not copy files from USB drive plugged into the TC.. plug it into the computer.
Create a directory on the TC to receive the files.. so it has correct permissions.. then try and copy the files to the directory you created and not the root directory of the TC.
A lot of problems have to do with setup being incorrect.
