Safari will not allow me to open my gmail account. It states, "too many redirects occurred"

I am using Safari 8.08 all my updates are current. I am unable to open my gmail account. I keep getting an error message that states, "Too many redirects occurred"

Has anyone experienced this problem?

MacBook Pro, iOS 8.0.2, Safari 8.08

Turn wifi off and then back on or disconnect your Ethernet cable and reconnect.

Next try powering off and then back on your router

Then , if required, reboot
