Does iPad Air Home Sharing require 5-6 gb free space?

I am home sharing MOVIES from my iMac to my iPad Air. Why does my iPad Air stop sharing my iMac movies unless I have 5-6 GB free space? The movie doesn't have to download, does it? I'm just viewing a movie from my computer, not my iPad Air.

Anyone who plans to Home Share Movies between a Mac and a device must leave 5-6 GB empty space on their device. At the present time, the entire movie file will be duplicated or cached on any device used. Your device will be short 5-6 GB it's storage capacity. If you do not HomeShare movies then you can use the entire device for storage.
