I transfered all my files (documents, music, photos, etc) from my old macbook pro to my new one (most recent model). Now I cannot find them in finder, but I know they are on the computer because there was a significant change in the amount of storage left on it. How do I access them?

If you migrated them when you set up the computer or used a method other than the Migration Assistant, choose Home from the Finder's Go menu and look for them.
If you used the Migration Assistant outside of the computer setup, log out and then into the migrated account.

I used migration assistant, but only transferred documents (not the account from my old laptop).
Double click the desktop hard drive image so you can then see the folder for Users - open that folder and see all the users on the new computer. If you used Migration Assistant it may have created users that match the old Mac. The files will be in the sub-folders for the old users.
If you did so after you set up the computer, it'll have created a new account. If desired, move them to /Users/Shared/ and then into your first account's home folder.
