luisom,

Here is the specifications page for the iBook G4 line:

http://support.apple.com/specs/ibook/iBook_G4.html

It gives the following information for VGA, S-video and composite video output:

"Video mirroring supports VGA video out to an external display or projector (requires included Apple VGA Video Adapter) and S-video and composite video out to a TV or VCR (requires optional Apple Video Adapter, sold separately)."

The adapter came with your computer but you may not have it anymore. If you have that adapter, you may still need another connector to connect to the old monitor.

This page states that your computer is VGA compatible:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86183

Here is the Apple infobase page for adapters:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=33001

Google for vendors and you are in business.

(If you have the old HD45 monitor connector for the 6100/7100/8100 series computers, you will need to adapt that connection as well. Information found here.)

Good luck shopping.

Display cables usually have PINS, and Macintosh Computer Display adapters usually have HOLES.

When your Mac supplies a VGA, but your monitor has an older two-row Macintosh display cable, you need either of the top two adapters listed in the article Jim referenced above.

33001- Monitor and Display Adapter Table

These are different from the majority of similar adapters because they have PINS on the VGA side, to plug into a computer or adapter, and HOLES on the Macintosh side, to accept a Macintosh display cable.

The third adapter in that table adapts a VGA monitor to an older Macintosh display. It is not what you want. Its has HOLES on the VGA side, to accept a VGA display cable, and PINS on the Macintosh side, to plug into the Macintosh.

This store sells cables and adapters on a regular basis. When one bid ends, they start another at their store.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200042518058&ih=010&category= 25436&ssPageName=STORE:PROMOBOX:ENDSOON

That cable is an example of female on one end and male on the other. It is the oposite of what you need on the Mac end especially if you have an Apple VGA monitor. Which Apple monitor do you have? It is hard to find the exact cable without knowing the specific Mac monitor you have.

Look at the store links and follow the links to their current offerings. You should find something to fit your needs.

luisom,

Your old Mac monitor will plug into the female end of this adapter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/PC-to-Mac-Monitor-adapter-New_W0QQitemZ200041811228QQihZ010Q QcategoryZ25436QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That will turn your old Mac monitor into a standard VGA monitor with the three rows of pins. That should plug into the Apple part number 922-4554 found on this page:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=33001

(I am assuming that the Apple adapter has a female vga end. My daughter's G4 iBook is sitting here by me but the adapter is not in the case and the Apple site does not indicate gender. If you have the Apple adapter that shipped with your laptop, you can verify this last link.)

You will need both adapters to make a complete connection.

You should also read this article from Accra to make sure you have the right Apple adapter. Good luck.
