reformat hard drive
I am currently backing up my macbook (2009) with yosemite 10.10.4. I have finally bought a new external hard rive. What is the process of reformating the macbook and rebuilding it?
MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Couple of ways depending on exactly what you want to do, and all pf them would require a back up first. But why are you doing this? And exactly what do you want to do? Reinstall the OS? Erase and instakll it? There is no "rebuild" as such.

Hi Terence,
Maybe rebuild is the wrong word....My MacBook is very slow...and one of the community forum members advised that I should back up my MacBook and rebuill (reformat) the drive.
I have backed it up....but not sure how to ''clean up the drive and start reloading only the programs a nd documents I really require.
