What version of the OS are you using?

For 10.6:

10.7:

For 10.8, 10.9 or 10.10, you'll need to reinstall the OS.

OS X Yosemite installed?

Do you have backup? If not, you have to reinstall OS X.

Backup the computer.

Reinstall OS X.
