MacBook Pro - Airdrop not finding other devices

Hi

I'm using a Macbook Pro late 2011 13inch OS X Yosemite

and am trying to Airdrop to an Ipad. If I go onto my Imac (brand new) and open Airdrop it will find the Macbook when I look for older devices.

However when I reverse the process and try it the other way around the MacBook won't find the Imac as the display only says that I should ask the other user to turn on Airdrop, it doesn't give any option to search. It's the same when I try to connect to the Ipad. I open Airdrop on the Ipad and nothing happens.

They are connected to the same wifi network

Can anyone help, I've no hair left ?
