How do I know my mac is in safe mode?

I know you start up with the SHIFT key held down. But once it is running, how can you tell that the mac is running in safe mode? Googling didn't help. Just a million pages saying "start with the SHIFT key", over and over, but where can I get proof that it is running in safe mode? It doesn't look any different to me and I want to KNOW for sure.

Thanks

Bob

Safe mode doesn't look any different to regular mode in my experience. I'll boot my Mac into Safe mode now and see if I notice anything!
