FaceTime requires new password after years of trouble free use. Two resets result in message; "Registering device does not have appropriate credentials". What the simple resolution?

Are you able to login to your Apple ID by visiting https://appleid.apple.com/?
If so, it seems the solution is to log in and out of iCloud! You can do that in System Preferences > iCloud > Sign Out
