Can a Mac Remote be connected to MacAir

I am trying to connect my MAC Remote to my midd 2011 MacBook Air and want to use it to show pictures in Photos, is this possible and if so how

Mac OS X (10.6.6)

you can use external infrared adapter for your adapter or buy bluetooth alternative
