My bootcamp software still has not updated to the 6.0 version for Windows 10. Is Apple rolling it out still or should I do a direct download somewhere?

BC6 drivers have been released, BC6 Assistant is not. Please do not confuse the two.
BC6 drivers can be downloaded using BC Assistant v 5.x on the OSX side or Apple Software Update on the Windows side.

I see, so should boot camp assistant update the drivers to 6.0 automatically or is there a way to make sure my drivers are up to date? I was having trouble installing Windows 10 with boot camp after a successful installation of windows 7 on an older macbook pro.
You will run into driver issues, if your Mac is not listed in Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support .
