Recently there has been a problem on my iMac with the sound, every now and then it distorts slightly which is irritating as I primarily use it for recording music and listening to. I have searched Google and found the odd suggestion for fixing it and I have tried all of them but to no avail. What the **** is going on and how do I fix it? It is really doing my nut in.

I have reset the NVRAM and it is still happening.
