Just updated to Yosemite (from Mavericks) which included update of iTunes. How can I transfer files from my MacBook Pro to iPad (or iPhone) when no network available? There used to be an option to transfer using iTunes and a usb cable. Did this go away? Is there a 3rd Party program that will do this?

Connect you device with the cable.
Select the Music tab in the upper right corner then chose the Playlist tab in the at the top of the Library list - you will now see your device listed on the right sidebar.
You should also see it as an icon at the top of the side bar.

Thanks for the reply - I was not seeing the playlist tab -- used to have it all the time - probably selected it so long ago that I forgot that you had to choose to use it. Once I got the playlist tab open, then my devices appeared and I could transfer files without wi-fi. A case of asking too soon.
