Easy, if you have a side switch it's an iPad Air. No side switch it's a iPad Air 2.

I know I have iPad Air.
Many sellers list accessories as for a 3rd generation or a 5th generation iPad Air. An example: "For Apple iPad Air 5 5th Gen Silicone Rubber Soft Slim Case Skin Cover Accessory."
I know that there is no such thing as "iPad Air 5." What does "5th Gen" refer to, though?
I think you'll have to ask the seller exactly what they mean. As you say, "I know that there is no such thing as "iPad Air 5."

Technically speaking the iPad Air is the 5th Generation iPad.
i.e it was the 5th iPad Apple produced.
First Generation iPad.
iPad 2 (Second Generation)
iPad 3 (Third Generation, also known as The New iPad)
iPad 4 (Fourth Generation iPad also know as the iPad With Retina Display)
iPad Air (Fifth Generation)
iPad Air 2(Sixth Generation)
Though its not referred to as such by Apple, its a standard nomenclature among accessory makers. If it says 5th Generation iPad or iPad Air, its meant for the iPad Air.
