Why did Touch ID stop working to approve family share apps?

Up until 30 minutes ago when a family member want to download an app, it ask for me to approve and enter my fingerprint (Touch ID). Now something happened and it is asking for me to enter my password. I don't want to do this on my iPhone every time one of my kids wants a game or app, i need touch ID to work. I check and it was turned off for app store purchases, so I turned it back on. If I download an app, my touch ID works. But I try to approve one of my kids apps and it asks for my password. How to i get Touch ID back for approving my kids family share app purchases?

Thanks, Dean.

If you powered off the phone, it's necessary to manually enter the password once. The difficulty with the app store is if you powered down the phone two weeks ago (and forgot that you did it) and haven't accessed the app store until now.

After lots of steps of turning on and off everything related to touch ID, family sharing, kid approval and itunes I finally called Apple. The rep stated that TouchID is no longer a supported option for approving purchase request for your kids. I lodged an official request to bring the feature back and he stated that if enough people request it, it may be brought back. Please call Apple Support and make the request. If they hear enough of us maybe they will bring it back.

Same problem.

Note: The password box says Sign-in to iCloud to approve purchase (or thereabouts). The point that hasn't been addressed in this message string is that Family Share sees the iPhone as not signed into iCloud on Family Share. That's a fairly big hint as to what the problem is. I'd have customer care address that issue and see what they say. If I get a chance to call or email them, I'll let y'all know what I find out.

besides convienence, Touch ID keeps me from having to enter my secret password into my iPhone multiple times in front of prying eyes that could find out my password by looking.

Additionally, I think this encourages people to use simple passwords. I get requests throughout the day, and try to stay secure by using a complicated password. When my kids decide to send me seven request at once, I have to type this long secure password seven times. I'm ready to change my password to dog. Or whatever the simplest password Apple allows. This is ridiculous.

Bump....The frustration with this continues! How difficult can it be to turn the feature back on. I have thought of no good reason that it should have been removed in the first place. Using a fingerprint for Family Share approvals is more convenient, quicker, and more secure (than having kids or someone observe password when it is entered multiple times a day).

Ugh...iOS updates 9.1 and 9.2 have rolled out since the problem was first discussed and still the touch option of family share approvals has not been re-enabled. Apple, you are better than this and somewhere up the chain a decision maker should get this problem resolved. I'm almost to the point of telling my kids no more downloads or purchases because I am so frustrated with having to enter my password every time they make a request. Please re-enable this feature!
