One or more items in "file name" can't be changed because they are in use

I was editing in Avid Media composer (8.1) and closed the program. When i plugged my hard rive in the next day I had the following message: "OS X can't repair the disk "LaCie". You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can". Then when i open Avid, my timeline can't open.

I've bought a new hard rive and I'm trying to transfer my entire old hard drive onto it (footage, sound effects and Avid files). When i try to copy it, i get this message : "One or more items in "file name" can't be changed because they are in use."

The "file name" is the document where my Avid project is (my footage, audio and media project).

I have no idea what to do from there, can anybody help?

I'm happy to give more information on what's going on if needs be.

Thanks Q

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
