Need Help...Software Update and Other iMac Apps quitting unexpectedly

Earlier today I did a Repair Disk Permissions function, and deleted some old files and applications...I'm thinking I may have deleted something important...and now my Mac Software Update, iTunes, etc won't start...

Can anyone give me some advice as to 1) What is wrong, and 2) How do I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a backup you could restore from? If so, restore the computer from a time before you started deleting files. If not, do a backup, boot off the DVD, run Disk Utility Verify/Repair Disk and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS. Then restore your data.
