I have a 2013 MBP retina display and as of late it has been completely freezing up with a clicking sound coming from what I believe to be the right hand side. This is happening on a regular basis. Any ideas?

Your model MBP has fans on both sides, so it could be the fan that is making the noise.
I would try SMC and NVRAM resets followed by a safe boot:
