New iPhone 6 plus will not text through Ford sync. The Blue tooth connects fine, will receive calls, but will receive text on Ford Sync screen(our Droid phone did). My SMS is off on my phone, will that matter??

Apple does not support text messaging over Bluetooth. You can receive messages by enabling the "Turn on Notifications" option under your iPhone's Bluetooth settings of your paired vehicle.
If you absolutely require messaging support for your Ford SYNC then Android OS is your best option.
