How do I reset my iPod 360GB when following the reset instructions fails to resolve the problem?

My iPod 360GB fails to start. I have followed the reset instructions and the Apple logo appears. Then plugging into the mains electricity supply the reset still gets stuck on the logo. After a while the iPod appears to be recharging and the message "ok to disconnect" is displayed. What more can I do to resolve my problem please?
