I left it on one night on a table just like I do every night except this time I woke up and it wouldn't turn on. I am just curious as to what may have caused it and how I can prevent it from happening again in the future. Luckily I am still under warranty right now.

I don't think there is anything that you could have done to cause it and nothing you could do to prevent it. Sometimes electronic components fail. You were unlucky that it happened to you but as you noted, lucky to be under warranty.
Exactly this, you just had a bad logic board, it happens sometimes. This is exactly what the warranty is for, unexpected early failures, Apple will likely either replace the logic board or even the entire machine.
My computer equipment is plugged into a surge protector. If you live in an area of unstable power, or frequent electrical storms, surge protection could be preventative medicine for your equipment. However, as has been mentioned, under the best of circumstances, equipment will fail for no apparent reason or cause.
