Undeletable song entries

I have accumulated a lot of undeletable song entries on my iPhone 6+, and I want to know how to get rid of them without completely restoring my phone.

Then entries all have dashed circles in front of them, and they are greyed out. They are the result of deleting content from my iPhone while connected to iTunes. I can delete the greyed entries at the time I'm connected to iTunes, but when I reconnect they all reappear. They are unplayable on the iPhone.

I am manually managing my music content.

Thanks!

I restored my iPhone, which took about four hours. Afterward, I connected to iTunes and found that the grey circle song entries were gone.

However, when I deleted another song from my iPhone, it became a new grey-circle entry that can't be deleted.

The restore process is a very impractical way to completely delete song listings from an iPhone. the Music app pre iOS 8 didn't leave lingering deleted song data. Apple needs to address this in iOS 9.

By the way, my wife's iPhone 5S has the same grey-circle deleted song problem. So the problem isn't a hardware issue.
