Q: Multiple Kernel panics- please help!

Hi, I have been experiencing multiple kernel panics for the past month. I tried contacting support and have tried everything they suggested (including uninstalling all extensions and software listed in kernel panics, reinstalling the OS X, ran apple diagnostics- no errors showed up).

I am running a THREE MONTH old MacBook Pro Retina (early 2015) 10.10.5   2.9/8

I am posting the most recent panic report: any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This computer is still in warranty. Please make an appointment at the Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar and take it in for service. If you are not in the USA or cannot set up an appointment this way, then contact your local Apple Store directly.

According to the panic log it would appear there is a problem with Office - specifically Word in this case.

It's defective. The panics are not caused by software.

Contrary to the other poster. Panics do occur in hardware, but they can be caused by software malfunctions.

If you're interested in such technicalities, the only software that can cause kernel panics directly is code, such as the kernel itself or kernel extensions, that runs in the kernel address space. Microsoft Office is not kernel code. A panic report usually shows the process that was executing when the kernel exception was encountered. That information may have some value for debugging, but it does not mean that the process caused the panic.

Thank you, so do you suggest I take it to the Apple Store and have them replace the motherboard (from what I understand on other discussion sites, that's the only way to fix it?).

"Microsoft Office is not kernel code"

No, but it can use kernel processes. In the case of this panic report: BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Microsoft Word. Surely, you know what that tells us? Look over OS X- About kernel panics.

"the only software that can cause kernel panics directly is code"

Last I was aware "code" is "software."

do you suggest I take it to the Apple Store

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
