Has anyone got "Dynamic Global Hostname" to work with Time Capsule?

With my old Linksys router I was able to configure it with my Dyndns username/password and hostname so that I could access my home network from the internet. I am trying to configure my Apple Airport Time Capsule to do the same thing, and I've zoomed into this "Dynamic Global Hostname" parameter. I've done a bit of googling and found that I must use the "TSIG Key" settings in Dyndns (https://account.dyn.com/profile/tsig.html). I tried putting "Key Name" from this page into the "User" field in the Airport Utility dialog box, and "Key HMAC" into the "Password" field, and it didn't work. I also tried putting the standard Dyndns user name/password in but still no luck.

I've also read this page from Dyndns: https://help.dyn.com/airport-and-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/which basically says Apple isn't supporting Dyndns anymore.

Can someone tell me what the preferred way of accessing one's home network from the internet is? My IP address keeps changing and it's a hassle to keep reconfiguring everything.

Thank you!

Remote access is now an apple utility, BTMM.

Read the doco from Tesserax.

AirPort Disk - Remote Access (3 Methods)

The global hostname does work for some people.. but it is less than reliable.

Is it still not possible to use Airport Extreme with DynDNS?

You can be pretty sure Apple will be working to ensure it doesn't work.. once they release their own system (ie BTMM) they will go to great lengths to cut off using 3rd party tools.

Best idea is to,

1. Buy a static public IP from your ISP. This is often only available on business level ISP accounts but if you require access is the only reliable method.

Remember dynamic addressing is partly to prevent you running servers.. which is what you are trying to do.

2. Go back to using a brand of router that supports dyndns and simply bridge the TC.. this is easiest to do and allows for simple port forwarding.

3. Use VPN.. buy a vpn server type router.. these are not expensive now... even a cheap router with third party will do this job very efficiently.

VPN are industry standard.. secure .. and available with clients in almost every device you own.

The major problem with BTMM is that it only works for Macs... and using AFP protocol.. so it is unusable on iOS or anything else.

Thank you for the detailed response.

I'm not trying to access my airport disk from the internet, I just wanted an easy way to remote into a couple of windows machines inside my network. I think for now I will just run the DYN update program on one of the windows machines, I had forgot about that. I do also have a modem but I switched it into bridge mode and am using the Time Capsule, due to the telco locking down the firmware and disabling such things as dyn updating.
