I followed the instructions from https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201625 to move my iTunes files to an external drive. Now the music will only play single tracks (not move to next track). Also each time I play a track on the external drive, the track moves from the iTunes/media/music/"nameofcd" folder to iTunes. Suggestions to fix this please?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Those instructions are for backing up the library, not for moving it. Which are you trying to do?

Moving it to upload all other my CDs which will take too much space on my hard drive.

Then you would delete the original library and choose the new one when prompted by iTunes. Back up all data before deleting anything.

Thank you for your time. Sadly it's a mess.

I'm restoring the Music folder from the backup (before it was a mess).

Can you point me to the instructions that will allow me to (1) move the music tracks to the ED and (2) upload future CDs to the ED. Presumably I will be able to play from the ED without the albums getting re-loaded back onto the hard drive.

You first have to consolidate the library, as directed in the support article. Then copy it to the new location. Delete the original. Relaunch iTunes and select the new library.
