Q: Edited Fotos not available

Hello,

I have a problems with edited photos in the new "photos" app on the iMac:

I want to import my edited photos into other applications.

After I edited the photos and open the other applications I can select the photos out of the photos-folder. But the problem is: only the original foto will be imported into the other application!! Not the edited one!!

For example: when I brighten up an original foto and select it over another application only the dark original will be imported!

What can I do? Most of the times I only want to do a quick edit (brightness, color) and don´t want to open photoshop, edit the whole picture, save it again, etc....

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

What do you mean by "I can select the photos out of the photos-folder"? How are you trying to access the photos?  Are you trying to access the originals you imported in the "Photos" folder in your Home folder or are you opening the "Photos" item in the Media section of the Finder's sidebar?

The Media Browser in the File Chooser panel should show you your Photos Library and the edited versions of the photos, like this:

I choose the photos out of the "photos" item in the media section!

    Fotos.jpg

That is exactly my problem! I choose the edited photo out of my photo library! In the overview is see the edited version (f.e. the brighter photo). And when I choose it an insert it, it only shows the original version (the dark one)!!

Which application are you using? I tested with several applications, and in all cased did the Media Browser show the edited version.

Your Photos Library may need repairing.

As a test create a new Photos library, import a photo, edit it, then try to import using the Media Browser.  Creating libraries and switching between libraries is described on this Help page:                Use multiple libraries

If you can see the edited photos using a new library, repair your Photos library. But make a backup of the library before you try that:  https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6be18f93

    Repair your library

If you experience problems with photos in a library, Photos can try to repair it. If problems persist, you can also restore your library from a Time Machine backup.

Important: You should back up your photo library before repairing your library.

    • If Photos is open, choose Photos > Quit Photos.
    • Press Option-Command and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock). The Repair Library window opens.
    • Click Repair to rebuild your photo library.

Sorry that it took me so long to answer, but I was pretty busy this week.

I want to sell some item over eBay and want to import the pictures when I create the offer through the eBay-website.

There you can choose the pictures you want to show in your offer.

I tried your advice and repaired the photos library. At first it worked perfect and I could import the edited pictures without any problems.

But now I have the same problems again!! The edited photos just don´t show up over the media folder!! I don´t have a clue!

Sometimes they appear when I try it again after a longer time period. Right after I imported the pictures into "Photos" they never show up!

Did you quit Photos and your WebBrowser after you imported the photos, before you tried to upload?  If you do not do that the Media Browser may still be seeing the previous state of the Photos Library. Quitting both apps will force the the applications to update their caches from the Photos Library.

Are you using iCloud Photo Library?  Then it may take a long time until the photos upload to iCloud and back to your Mac again. The Media Browser needs local copies of the photos and does not work with the iCloud copies.

    It works!! Thanks a lot!!!

Before, with the "old" iPhotos I didn`t have to close the web browser and iPhotos and it worked fine.

I will close and open the programs from now on! :-)

You're welcome. Closing both applications will make Photos write the changes to the Photos Library and the Media Browser, and the Web Bowser will read the updated  items from the Media Browser, when it launches again. It is a bit tedious to have to do this. Consider to write feedback to Appleto report a usuability  a usability issue.
