Why mac app store cannot download Skype?

There are a lot of third party apps that are not available in the Appstore.

When you download apps from another source as the Appstore, only do that from the developer site, never from socalled "aggregate" sites, like Softonic, CNET, download.com, etc: these sites often make manipulated installers that can transfer adware/malware to yout computer.

ALL iPhone Apps come from the iPhone App store. No exceptions, unless you decide to "jailbreak" your phone, which leaves it open to malware attacks.

Mac OS X still allows the installation and use of third-party Apps that did not come from the Mac App store. You may need an extra step to get them to Install/Open.

This is not clear to me. The OP is specifically asking about Skype, which is not an Apple product.

Non-apple products can be available on the Appstore, but a large number are not available on the Appstore and have to be downloaded from elsewhere. Like Skype.

Perhaps I should have done something like this:

iPhone:
