Auto tag release years

Hello,

With over more than 3000 songs in my iTunes library, I wanted to organise them by year. But as you might expect it's not my plan to edit manually 1700 (the rest already have the correct year tags) songs.

Most of these 1700 songs are before 2005 where I used to import CDs and singles with Windows Media Player which means that I can't ask Gracenote in iTunes for a little help. I already tried to re-import a few CDs, but some of them did I throw away, are lost or were borrowed from some friends...

Using autoTagger for iTunes, Mp3Tag, MusicBrainz Picard, MyVinyl and Yate also didn't work for me.

But iTunes has such a powerful search engine in their Store with an API, isn't there just an AppleScript which uses the iTunes Store API to edit those tags for me in batch?

I mean, I think I'm not the only one with this "problem".. How do other people deal with problem?

Thanks in advance
