Q: syncing of playlists not available

I have been unable to edit any music on my iPhone through playlists, just individual songs, one by one (and only on the phone, at that; very tedious). I can go to the playlist in iTunes, select "Add to [my device]" and nothing syncs. Additionally, the only option I have under "[device] > Music" is "Sync voice memos."  ???? what the **** is going on? I've turned off all of the God-awful Apple Music and iCloud "features" (though iTunes continues to insist that it is on) and I am at a loss.

    Hello peter.q.graves,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you would like to sync your music content manually through iTunes but cannot because it shows that iCloud Music Library is on. I also realize that Apple Music and iCloud Music Library are new and some people may prefer not using these services.

It sounds like you have disabled these services in iTunes on your Windows computer, but you also need to disable iCloud Music Library on your iPhone in order to sync music with iTunes again. The attached article below explains how to enable these services on your devices. Please use this information to ensure that iCloud Music Library has been disabled on your iPhone.

Check your Apple Music library settings - Apple Support

If iCloud Music Library has been disabled on your iPhone and you still see the message in iTunes that iCloud Music Library is on:

        1. Eject your iPhone from iTunes by clicking the Eject button The eject button

        2. Quit iTunes on your Windows computer

        3. Launch iTunes

        4. Connect your iPhone

        5. Select your iPhone in iTunes and then choose the Music pane from the sidebar

    Have a great day

Thanks! I had to disable iCloud on my phone "a couple of times" for it to take (and reboot) but it looks as though it's syncing properly now
