I have a new mac mini but I cannot pair with old trackpad whereas the keyboard worked straight away

I have entered the default code on support of 0000 to no avail. I have used the trackpad fine on my original mini, then recently on a macbook -until I bought my new mini- I changed the bluetooth name of my new computer in case this was the same as my old one and it was confused!

Any ideas anyone?😕

Did you unpair (delete with minus sign from BT preferences) the track pad from the old Mac?
