G5 Blinking Light. No Chime. Wont Boot.

I"m resurrecting an old G5.

Here's what happened

1. I powered up the G5 after many years and it booted up fine. I plugged in an ethernet cable and it wouldn't recognize the connection. I powered down and reset the PMU.

2. I plugged back in the computer and booted up. No chime. The white light above the power button was blinking 3 times. I suspected the RAM although it booted up just fine a few minutes before.

3. I have reset the PMU, taken out all 4 RAM sticks and tried every slot and every RAM stick to no avail.

4. I have replaced the PRAM battery. No fix.

5. I have disconnected all externals (USB or otherwise).

6. I cannot boot up in SAFE MODE, reset PRAM, or otherwise since the computer won't chime nor fully boot.

The fan (the one connected to the speaker) will continuously power up and down every few seconds.

There is NO chime at startup. The white power status indicator light is blinking 2 times every few seconds, which leads me to believe its a RAM issue but I've tried RAM that i know to be good but just can't get past this.

The computer was fine a few minutes ago.

ANY suggestions?

Hello,

Can you count the beeps or flashes?

1 beep = no RAM installed

2 beeps = incompatible RAM types

3 beeps = no good banks

4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)

5 beeps = processor is not usable

In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.

Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

It can show on any G5, and even many other computers & electronic devices of the period.

Your profile says you have a PowerMac running OS 10.6.8 ("Snow Leopard"). Can you clarify? No PowerMac can run a Mac OS higher than 10.5.8 "Leopard." PowerMac G5s and early Mac Pros share the same basic aluminum case design but, due to the change from PowerPC to Intel Processors in the Mac Pro, the troubleshooting can be different.

A G5 has one optical drive door; a Mac Pro has two.
