Q: Reset Administrator P/Word on 10.4.11

I have a iMac Desktop computer running 10.4.11 - I am trying to upgrade to OS however this is an old office computer which was set up before my employment started and therefore I don't know the administrator password. How can I reset this please.

I have read a few of the forums on here which suggestion to power up the computer holding down the commander and R button and then using the terminal to run a reset password command however this has not worked.

Can anyone suggest anything for me?

Your computer/OS is too old to use the recovery option (Command + R). First, we would need to know the year/model of the Mac to figure out if you can update at all - you may not be able to if it's a PowerPC. Second, unfortunately, I do not remember how one was able to reset the password in 10.4 - I believe you needed to use the install disks at that time.

You might get better answers in the 10.4 forum - I'll ask the hosts to move the thread.

    Resetting or changing a password:

For Snow Leopard or earlier:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274

If it's running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, restart with the Option key held down, click on it, and use the Reset Password utility.

If it is the Keychain password that needs resetting:

    https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203192

If the computer has a firmware password set, you will need to contact Apple.
