iPhoto to Photo transfer

I recently purchased a MacBook Air to replace my dead MacBook Pro. My Pro had been backing up to my Time Machine, but I had never upgraded to Yosemite. When transferring from my Time Machine to my new Air none of my photos from iPhoto transferred into Yosemite's new Photo's application. Where did they get sent to and is there any easy import feature? Thanks!

Check to see if the library migrated to your Mac by gong to Finder>Home icon>Pictures and see if you see iPhoto Library.photolibrary. If you see it there, then follow the instructions in this link to migrate those photos to the new Photos app under Migrating more than one Photo Library:

Niel and Gail have given you excellent advice above. I would just like to highlight one point, because you have not made clear how old your MacBook Pro is, or what the last software you used on it was.

If you last used some version of iPhoto earlier than version 8.0, you will have to use the iPhoto Library Upgrader to first bring your iPhoto library up to current enough that Photos can interpret the data there.

Download it from here:

iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1

Note this information actually appears in the reference Gail provided.
