Q: itunes store says I purchased something that I didn't purchase

When I couldn't run Sync My iTunes (Ford), I was getting an error message that iTunes was busy and that I should try later. No, my question isn't about Sync My iTunes.   It turns out that there was something in my cloud that was blocking Sync My iTunes to run.  iTunes showed that I supposedly had purchased an entire album but I most certainly didn't and I don't even have an iTunes account set up to purchase anything.  There are no children who have access to my PC. It's just my wife and I, both retired.   I did notice, however, that I was getting messages lately to update my iTunes Cloud info but I know absolutely nothing about Apple's cloud and I don't want to.  I've never purchased anything from iTunes. When I went to the iTunes store, it showed that I had purchased the album and I'm guessing that Apple was waiting for payment which would be impossible because they don't have credit card information anyway.

Does anyone know how this can happen?  Also, how to I shut off my cloud account which I apparently have even though I never wanted it. I see nothing in the preferences about clouds. I'm running iTunes 12.2.2.25, 64 bit.   By the way, I hid those supposed purchases but I couldn't delete them.  Sync My iTunes is now working properly but I want to shut down any cloud account and find out how an album could show up as purchased when I ever purchased one and, in fact, don't even know how.

    Hello, ZoneIII.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you have a concern with an album that was attached to your Apple ID.  I would need to know what album you are referencing in order to provide a better answer.  However, there is only one scenario where an album would attach to your Apple ID automatically and the article below explains what to do if you wish to remove the album.

Remove iTunes gift album "Songs of Innocence" from your iTunes music library and purchases

If this is not the album that is attached to your Apple ID, I would recommend reporting a problem with the purchase and possibly change your Apple ID password.  The articles below will walk you through these steps.

Report a problem with an item purchased from the iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBooks Store

    Change your Apple ID password

    Regards

The songs made up a complete U2 album which I didn't order although I couldn't remember the name of the album now and it doesn't show up in my iTunes store page now ever since I hid them.  However, I just looked up U2's discography and see that U2 did have an album called "Songs of Innocence" as mentioned in your response so I'll follow the directions in your link.  As I said, after doing some research, I found that the problem with my Sync My iTunes tool was this album and learned that hiding it would allow Sync My iTunes to work, which it did.  But I don't know if hiding it actually removed it.  Again, I'll follow the directions in your link.

For a week or two, every time I started iTunes, I got a message saying I had to update my iTunes login for the iCloud but, as I said, I never knew I had an iCloud account and I never wanted one.  I also never purchased music from iTunes and never even fist the Store.  Instructions I found to disable or uninstall iCloud didn't work for me because it was not in my programs and a search of my system found nothing related to the iCloud. I finally uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it.  I see now that it lists iCloud as an update so I assume that I don't have iCloud now.

By the way, when I kept being asked to update my iCloud account but before I uninstalled iTunes, in frustration, I finally did update my iCloud account with bogus info just to stop those messages that kept popping up.  Even then, I got the messages but they seem to have finally stopped.

    ZoneIII,

Thank you for the follow-up information.  Hiding the purchase will not remove this album so go through that first link and let me know if you have any issues.  Your Apple ID and iCloud account are usually one and the same.  So in regard to the prompt to update your iCloud/Apple ID information, I would avoid using any bogus information as this could cause an issue when needing to reset your password or recover lost data in the future.  We would need to verify your identity in order to access your account to make changes at your request and bogus information would make it impossible to verify that you are in fact the account holder.

Thank you very much.  I did use the procedure in your link and it seemed to work fine.

As for bogus information, I changed my name and address to bogus info since I saw no reason why my real name and address were needed since I don't use the Store and also in frustration as iTunes kept asking me to update that info, which has never happened before.  Also, in this time of identity theft, etc., I am more and more in the habit of only providing personal information when it's absolutely necessary.  I don't see why Apple needs my name, address, etc.  If there is a legitimate reason why Apple needs my address, etc., I would provide it but I can't imagine what that reason would be since I don't use the Store.

My iTunes seems to be working fine now.  I haven't been getting that constant pop-up telling me to update my iCloud account, which I never wanted anyway.

    Thanks Again
