Use UHD TV 55" as monitor for Mac Mini

Hi all,

I am thinking about buying a Mac Mini and use my brand new UHD 55" TV as monitor. According to the specs the mini is able to provide from 1080 to 4K resolution but I wonder if someone else has already tried it and how is the experience so far. My user experience will be limited to internet surfing, watching online movies and that kind of stuff. For anything else I have my work computer.

Thanx for your opinions!

There is only one maybe two makes of 4K aka. UHD TV which support Displayport connections. This is important because no repeat no Macs support 4K at 60Hz via HDMI whereas several Mac models do support 4K at 60Hz via Mini Displayport.

You would probably be able to do 4K at 30Hz via HDMI but to some people that does not deliver an acceptable level of quality.

For what its worth in this case the Mac mini can only do 30Hz via Mini Displayport as well. Something else to consider is that normally TVs are configured to optimise moving images and therefore as default deliver inferior quality for text and other static elements that are typical on computers. You might be able to adjust this but then this would be to the detriment of TV and Movies.

(Panasonic do a 4K TV with a Displayport interface.)
