Q: my disk utility shows two hard drives, one has 205 of 499 used the other has 498 of 499 used...

My disk utility shows two hard drives, one has 205 of 499 used the other has 498 of 499 used...what does this mean?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    can you post screenshot?

    i think you see one drive where i you can see total storage and overall space taken by files

    Sounds like you have Disk Utility set to show every partition. The "205" is in MB and the 498 is in GB. The smaller partition is likely the hidden EFI partition and the larger is what you normally consider your HD.

    I don't know how to do a screen shot but heres what i get, when i click on the first one, my only options are, first aid/partition...verify disk/repair disk

    when i click on the second one my options are, first aid/erase/restore...verify disk permission/repair disk permission...verify disk...

    also both drives are in gigabytes...
