Q: Windows 7 on boot camp very slow after last OSx update

I'm running a mid-2010 17" MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel i7, 8G RAM, I recently updated to OSX 10.10.5 and now my Windows 7 64b pro on Boot Camp runs very slowly. It's not that it doesn't work at all, it just works about 10x longer than previously both when starting/shutting down and when loading apps. I've run some utilities on the Windows side, but they find no problems. Disk Utility in OSX can see the drive but verify/repair buttons are grayed out. Before I blow out the partition and try reinstalling Win7, is there anything I can do to fix it? I have not previously had any problems with Windows7 on boot camp or OSX updates. It has always run like a champ. What changed?

MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
