Why do I have a blue line at the top of the screen persistently? This is new.

My screen all of a sudden started showing this blue line.

All of my apps are currently closed.

Thinking this line indicates the running of an application, I reviewed this.

My Background App Refresh is not toggled to on for any apps under General Settings.

Furthermore, I've gone through each application and looked at its settings. None are toggled to "always on" for location.

About 4-5 of them are allowed location services when app is in use. But, all these apps are closed currently.

Recently after this line was present x about 2 weeks and driving me crazy, I started arbitrarily deleting a few recently-loaded apps. And the line disappeared! It's been gone for another week.

Then today, I did an update to a few apps, and the Blue Line of Irritation is back.

Any thoughts? I am not very savvy with these devices, and I just may be an idiot. Which I welcome anyone to point out to me.

Just please make this disappear…

Internet searches on this topic have not been fruitful thus far…

I have an iPhone 5C, running iOS 8.4.1 (UTD).

My phone is about a year old; has been doing other strange things lately, such as not making alert noises as it should.

I am not using a hotspot.

I have noticed that blue line with Google maps on occasion. However, I am not running it. And the app is not set to run when the app is off.

Interestingly, sometimes the line turns to only one line, like this:

I did just do the restart, and the line went away!

Now, I know you won't believe me, but I have done that before, and it did not! (Grrrr!!!) Which is why I ended up making this post…

At any rate, I'm glad it's gone (for now… shhhh!!!)

Thank you for reminding me of an apparently simple fix.

Normally this is also stated at the top and a symbol appears, but do you use a personal hotspot? Also, Google maps will sometimes leave a bar at the top for a few moments.

A few things to try:

  1. Hold the sleep/wake and home button until Apple logo appears
  2. Reset all settings settings>general>Reset>reset all settings(no data is lost, but all settings are back to default.)
  3. I the issues still persist I would make a backup and then restore the phone to factory settings
